Naim Sliti: Tunisia winger calls time on international career

One of the most talented Tunisian wingers, Naïm Sliti has called time on his glittering international career.

The 33-year-old left winger has shockingly ended his international career, just months before the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by Canada, USA and Mexico.

In a video shared by the Tunisia Football Federation, Sliti expressed his profound gratitude to the nation that gave him all in his football career.

Naim Sliti has featured at five AFCONs and two World Cups

“I have decided to end my international career. The time has come, and I think it’s time to make way for the next generation.

“You know the place the national team holds in my heart. I have experienced unforgettable moments that will remain etched in my memory.

“I always dreamed of bringing you a major title, but unfortunately, we didn’t manage it. I hope the new generation will succeed in bringing you the joy of a victory you deserve,” he said in a video published by the Tunisian Football Federation.

With the Eagles of Carthage, the Al-Shamal SC player made 84 appearances and scored 15 goals, helping Tunisia qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup where they are paired in Group F against the Netherlands and Japan with the third opponent set to be decided by the playoffs.

Sliti played just one game at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as the Carthage Eagles exited the tournament in Round of 16 by Mali after a 3-2 penalty shootout loss following a 1-1 draw.

His rich career includes featuring for Tunisia at two FIFA World Cups, five Africa Cup of Nations and he has made nine appearances for Al Shamal SC in the Qatari Stars League this season.
