Kenyan Premier League newcomers Nairobi United recovered to defeat Bandari FC 3-1 in a rescheduled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League fixture at Dandora Stadium on Monday.
Having made history by reaching the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup, the Naibois returned to domestic action losing 3-0 against Sofapaka on Saturday, November 1. However, they bounced back in emphatic fashion against the Dockers.
They started the strongest side and took the lead when Rwanda defender Prince Buregeya headed in a corner delivered by Ovella Ochieng. Nairobi should have doubled their lead from outside the area, but Ochieng curled his effort inches wide.
Bandari under Moroccan coach Mohammed Borji almost pulled a goal back when Abdallah Hassan hit the woodwork. Hassan once again forced United keeper Bernard Jairo into a superb save as they continued to search for the leveller.
The Dockers were finally rewarded when Geoffrey Ojunga beat Jairo with a thunderous effort. The game went into the half-time both teams tied at 1-1, and in the second half United looked the dangerous side.
In the 53rd minute, Duncan Omalla was fouled inside the box with the referee pointing to the spot, Machaka stepped up to send Bandari goalkeeper Levis Opiyo the wrong way and regain their lead.
In the 84th minute, United sealed the win when Shami Kibwana scored from close range. The win enabled United under coach Nicholas Muyoti to move to sixth on the 18-team league table with nine points from five matches.
United will return to action against Kariobangi Sharks on Saturday.
