Nairobi United goalkeeper Ernest Muhammed was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of this season’s domestic FKF Cup, after saving Alpha Onyango's stoppage-time penalty to deny Gor Mahia's comeback in their 2-1 final victory at Ulinzi Sports Complex on Sunday.

In addition to shutting out Gor Mahia, Muhammed's penalty heroics were crucial in Nairobi United’s run to the final, having saved two spot-kicks in earlier rounds.

Elsewhere, Gor Mahia’s Gad Mathews won the golden glove accolade, having kept four clean sheets and been a consistent performer, while Shabana striker Brian Michira finished as the tournament’s top scorer with five goals.

In the third-place play-off held earlier at the same venue as the final, Murang’a Seal edged past Mara Sugar with a narrow 1-0 victory to claim third place in the competition.

Despite their struggles in the FKF Premier League, the cup provided a glimmer of hope, with the team falling just short of a place in the final after a hard-fought penalty shoot-out loss to Gor Mahia in the semi-finals.

With promotion to the FKF Premier League and a spot in their CAF Confederation Cup now confirmed, Nairobi United’s double-winning season is one for the history books. They will join FKF Premier League champions Kenya Police FC, who will represent the country in the CAF Champions League, as Kenya’s flagbearers on the continental stage.
