NEC FC have been dealt a double transfer blow after attackers Charles Waibi and Titus Ssematimba completed moves to Kenyan side Nairobi United FC.
Reliable sources have confirmed that Nairobi United agreed terms with both players and the duo has already traveled to the Kenyan capital to finalize their switch, in a transfer window that has also seen the club capture Uganda Cranes left back Mustafa Kizza from the same club.
Interestingly, Nairobi United are no strangers to Waibi. The forward was on target against them during last year’s CAF Confederation Cup second leg in Kenya, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw. That goal, and his overall quality, seems to have left a lasting impression.
Waibi only joined NEC FC at the start of the current season from Kigezi Homeboyz, where he had built a strong reputation over three seasons, registering 14 goals and 25 assists.
His performances there earned him a move to NEC, but his stay has now been cut short by the Nairobi United offer.
Ssematimba, on the other hand, also arrived at NEC FC at the beginning of the season after a brief spell at Kitara FC. He has previously featured for Wakiso Giants and even had a short loan stint at Al Dahra in the United Arab Emirates’ third tier early last year.
His journey began with Black Star Masanafu FC and St. Lawrence University in the Kampala Regional League and University Football League respectively. The move comes months after Nairobi United knocked NEC FC out of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup. In the Kenyan Premier League,
Nairobi United are currently ninth on the table with 19 points, and the two Ugandans are expected to bolster their push in the second half of the campaign.
