The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that Uganda’s iconic Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, is ready to host matches at the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The historic announcement follows a successful final inspection held on Thursday, July 9.

The inspection was part of an eight-day comprehensive tour of all CHAN 2025 host venues, with CAF experts assessing infrastructure, safety, media, and broadcast readiness across the three host nations—Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.

The tournament is set to run from August 2 to 30, 2025, and marks a monumental moment for East African football. Uganda’s Namboole Stadium joins a list of confirmed venues alongside Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium—which will host the final—and Nyayo International Stadium. Tanzania’s Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar and the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, which will stage the opening ceremony, were also approved.

CAF’s inspection team was led by heads of various departments including Competitions, Marketing, Broadcast, Media, Safety & Security, and Infrastructure, working in tandem with Local Organising Committees (LOCs) from each host country.

CAF hailed the final round of inspections as a major milestone in the buildup to the tournament, noting that the collective readiness reflects growing excitement across East Africa.

The football body also extended its gratitude to the governments and LOCs of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania for their collaboration and unwavering commitment to delivering a successful continental showpiece.

As the countdown begins, anticipation continues to grow for what CAF believes will be a spectacular celebration of African football on East African soil.
