Namibia national team defender Ryan Nyambe joined the large number of players moving to new clubs in January after completing a loan move from parent club Derby County.

The 28-year-old moved on loan from the EFL Championship side to Reading FC in a move that takes him from the second tier to the third division of English football. The loan will run until the end of the ongoing 2025-26 season and does not include an option to buy for Reading.
Since helping Derby earn promotion to the Championship at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, playing time has become increasingly difficult to come by for the player developed at Blackburn Rovers. Nyambe was limited to seven appearances during the first half of the current season, mostly brief substitute cameos after making two starts at the beginning of the campaign.
He will look to help Reading boost their fortunes in League One. The club has struggled to find their way back up the pyramid since being relegated from the English Premier League following the 2012-13 season. They were relegated from the Championship after ten seasons in the second tier following the 2022-23 season.
Nyambe has spent most of his 10-year professional career between the Championship and League One and will be expected to be ready to contribute immediately. He has made 17 appearances for the Namibia national team since debuting in a 2019 friendly against Ghana, representing the country at the 2019 and 2023 editions of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Reading, currently midtable in 11th place on the League One standings, will next host Barnsley on Saturday.
