Senegal midfielder Nampalys Mendy has received rave reviews from Watford interim manager Watford Charlie Daniels.
The 33-year-old made his first start in several months, delivering a superlative performance in the Hornets’ 0-0 draw against Hull City in week 30 fixture on Tuesday.
Charlie Daniels, who replaced Javi Garcia explained the squad setup that clawed a point at the MKM Stadium.
“It’s something we considered based on the players we have in the squad. Mendy came into the team and I thought he was excellent tonight,” said Daniels.
The Watford manager singled out Mendy for a yeoman’s job, highlighting the qualities of the former Leicester City and Monaco midfielder.
“For someone who hasn’t played much, to come into the team and play at that level, I thought it was really great.
“He arrived, and I hadn’t seen much of him before, so I could only base my opinion on what I had observed. We placed a lot of trust in him, and he showed why he’s a top player.”
Mendy has so far made nine appearances since arriving at the club last year on a free from Ligue side Lens1. Mendy’s previous experience includes stints with Monaco, Nice, Lens and Leicester City.
He was a member of Senegal’s squad that won its first Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in 2021.
