Orlando Pirates FC’s assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has outlined the team’s responsibility in coach Jose Riveiro’s final match in charge of the Betway Premiership giants on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

The Spaniard will leave the Buccaneers prematurely after the league match against Golden Arrows at Rand Stadium in Johannesburg.

Ahead of the match, Ncikazi, who will hold fort, insisted that Orlando Pirates will fight for three points to atone for the 2-1 loss to rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup final at the weekend.

“It is normal preparation for us. [We had] one day in between the match against the tough Lamontville Golden Arrows. We have one responsibility and that is to fight for three points,” he told Orlando Pirates FC’s media.

Earlier, Pirates’ management released a statement that Riveiro had asked to be released from his contract after picking up a new job. Media outlets suggest the Spaniard is on his way to join Al Ahly SC. The Egyptians parted ways with Marcel Koller after exiting the CAF Champions League semi-finals.

He leaves Pirates with three league games in hand, 15 points behind leaders and holders Mamelodi Sundowns.
