NEC suspend head coach Hussein Mbalangu over misconduct, Odoch takes interim charge

NEC FC have confirmed the suspension of head coach Hussein Mbalangu for a period of two months, following internal disciplinary action.

The decision comes shortly after the club’s disappointing early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup and a slow start to the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League campaign, where they have registered two draws in as many matches.

Odoch appointed as interim head coach

However, according to an official statement from the club, Mbalangu’s suspension is not linked to the team’s on-field performance, but rather to issues of professional and ethical misconduct.

“Head Coach Mbalangu Hussein has been suspended due to professional and ethical misconduct, effective immediately,” part of the club statement read.

In the meantime, assistant coach James Odoch has been appointed as interim head coach to steer the team during Mbalangu’s absence.

“In the interim, James Odoch will assume the role of Head Coach,” the club further stated.

Odoch’s first task will be a tough one as he leads the team on the road to face Entebbe UPPC this Saturday at Fisheries Grounds, Bugonga.
