NEC FC head coach Badru Kaddu has once again voiced his concern over his team’s wastefulness in front of goal, after watching them battle to a 1-1 draw away to Maroons in a rescheduled Uganda Premier League fixture on Saturday.
The hosts looked on course for victory when Ivan Asaba broke the deadlock in the 75th minute, capitalizing on a rare defensive lapse from NEC. But second-half substitute Marvin Kavuma stepped up with a timely equalizer, ensuring Kaddu’s side did not leave Luzira empty-handed.
While satisfied with the character his players showed to fight back, Kaddu was quick to point out the side’s recurring shortcomings in the final third.
“The boys showed good attitude and a strong mentality, but the effectiveness is still missing.”
Kaddu reflected after the match. “We hope they can lift their standards of finishing. We didn’t create many chances but at least the effort was around 45%.”
He admitted that NEC’s goal-scoring drought is becoming a stubborn obstacle. “Scoring is still our biggest challenge. We’re averaging only one goal per match and today’s came late. I thought we could add more, but the sharpness is still lacking,” he added.
Kaddu, however, heaped praise on Kavuma for his instant impact and understanding of the club’s identity.
“He knows what the club stands for and he fights for the badge. We thank him for helping us get a point away from home.”
Since replacing Hussein Mbalangu earlier in the season, Kaddu has guided NEC to mixed results — a 1-1 draw against BUL, a narrow 2-1 loss to SC Villa, and a 1-0 victory over Calvary, which marked his maiden win in charge.
NEC now shift focus to a tough home assignment against Vipers SC on Friday at Lugogo. Despite the inconsistencies, Kaddu remains optimistic.
“We have enough armoury to face any team in the league,” he said confidently. “At home we shall put on a good show because we are desperate to return to winning ways.”
Last season’s runners-up currently occupy ninth place on the log with 10 points from eight matches as they continue searching for momentum.
