SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has heaped praise on Cape Town Spurs whom they defeated 2-1 in extra time in the round of 16 fixture of the Nedbank Cup at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday.

It was Cape Town, who took the lead through Therlo Moosa, but SuperSport responded with an equalizer from Ime Okon before the end of the first half.

Neither team managed to break the deadlock in the second half or most of extra time, until Lebohang Maboe’s superb strike sealed the win and ensured the game wouldn’t be decided by penalties.

“Good performance again, going a goal down and fighting… They got a lot of experience on their side, they got a lot of guys that played a lot of football, a lot of them played for me,” Hunt told SuperSport TV as quoted by FARPost.

“They settled in and made it difficult for us. The turnover is obviously going to be important for them, and we handled it very well.

“There were one or two key moments that were scary, but we had a lot of opportunities around the box. We got to be a little bit better, but we got through; that’s the main thing, we got a little bit of momentum.”

Following the win, SuperSport became the first team to secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the domestic competition.
