Kaizer Chiefs defender Inácio Miguel says they are happy to carry the underdog tag going into Saturday’s Nedbank Cup final against rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Angolan told Kaizer Chiefs media they will use that tag to punish Orlando Pirates if they would be complacent at Moses Mabhida stadium in Durban.

The former Petro de Luanda player said last weekend’s 2-1 loss to the Buccaneers in a Betway Premiership would make the Soweto rivals overconfident, and Chiefs would use that to their advantage.

“Last weekend’s result might make Pirates a little bit over-confident and we are well prepared, mentally and physically, to take advantage of any complacency in their team,” Miguel said.

“We go into the game knowing there is no second chance in a final and we want to show everyone, including ourselves, that we can do it.”

The Angolan also called for calm ahead of the final, stressing the need to right the wrongs of last weekend.

“One could say it is the biggest game because it is for a trophy but I play every match like it’s a final. I give my maximum every game. For me, it’s just another game. I try to keep my emotions in check and pass the message to my teammates to remain calm. It brings a lot of responsibility, but I am happy to take that weight and leave my teammates free to play their best game,” he added.

With any semblance of hope long gone for the Betway Premiership title race and having missed out on the MTN8, the Nedbank Cup final will present the Glamour Boys a last opportunity to win silverware this season.
