Kaizer Chiefs forward Wandile Duba has made a bold claim that the South African club will make every effort to win the Nedbank Cup for their fans.
Amakhosi have had a disastrous campaign in the Betway Premiership so far this season, as they are lying eighth on the 16-team league table with 30 points from 24 matches. They are winless from their last four top-flight matches with their last victory coming against Magesi FC – 1-0 - on 4 March.
After Magesi, they drew 0-0 against Cape Town City, suffered a 2-0 defeat against Richards Bay, lost 2-1 against Golden Arrows and the 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
With the team out of the title race, their focus has shifted to the domestic Cup where they have been drawn to face rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.
“We wanted to win against TS Galaxy to get confidence because we know that we’re playing against the biggest team [Sundowns] next week,” Duba said on SuperSport TV as quoted by FARPost.
“So I think even a draw will give us the confidence we’re looking for in the next game. I know we’ve been telling fans that we’re building, and I’m sure they’re getting tired, but the process is coming up slowly, and we promise to deliver the Nedbank Cup.”
Chiefs will be seeking revenge against Sundowns, who have already defeated them thrice this season, in the league, and the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final.
