Experienced forward Linda Mntambo led Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United to a place in the quarterfinals of South Africa's Nedbank Cup, scoring twice in Sunday's 2-1 victory over second tier side Milford FC.
The former Orlando Pirates player scored twice in the first half before Menzi Chili pulled one back for hosts Milford at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban. The hosts could not find another goal in the second half and Sekhukhune held on to book a place in the final eight where they will face Mamelodi Sundowns.
Sunday's match was long delayed due to the financial and legal troubles of Royal AM, whose Round of 32 clash with Milford was postponed due to the circumstances. Sekhukhune's victory came after Milford advanced via walkover after Royal AM were unable to honor the fixture.
The Nedbank Cup will proceed with the quarterfinal stage next weekend. The winner of the competition qualifies for the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup.
