Neo Maema reveals how Fadlu Davids engineered his move to Simba SC

Tanzania Mainland Premier League Simba SC’s new signing Neo Maema has credited head coach Fadlu Davids for his decision to sign for the club ahead of the new 2025-26 season.

Speaking for the first time on his transfer to the Msimbazi Reds, the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacking midfielder, credited his South African counterpart for playing a pivotal role in convincing him to join the Tanzanian giants.

“You know, I knew him before he came to Simba, in South Africa. I knew a lot of people around him and how he works, you know, how he pushes the team, his style of play and what he expects from a player is something that develops you to become a better player,” said Maema as quoted by Daily News.

“I honestly can’t wait to experience Tanzania as a country and also the league and I know the league is competitive. What convinced me the most is how much the fans love the club. I feel like these people are very dedicated to their club. These are the people I want to see when I come to Simba.”

He added: “This transition to Simba specifically offered the perfect chance for renewal. I’ve always aspired to experience football beyond my home country’s borders. I’m looking forward to immersing myself in Tanzanian football and culture alike. This move ultimately represents the personal and professional challenge I sought.”

Maema started his career at Bloemfontein Celtic aged 22. After 60 appearances and three goals for Celtic, he joined Sundowns on a five-year deal in summer 2021.
