In a significant leadership shift both in Kampala’s city governance and local football, Hon. Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga— the newly elected Kampala City Lord Mayor — is poised to replace Erias Lukwago as KCCA FC Patron.
Balimwezo clinched the Lord Mayoral seat in a fiercely contested election on Thursday, 22nd January, securing 141,220 votes to triumph over his competitors. His victory not only marks a political transition but also promises a fresh chapter at the heart of one of Uganda’s most successful football clubs.
For the past 15 years, Erias Lukwago has been a central figure in KCCA FC’s journey, presiding as Patron during a period that saw the club lift five Uganda Premier League titles, capture multiple Uganda Cup trophies, and make history by becoming the first Ugandan side to reach the CAF Champions League group stages in 2018.
With Balimwezo stepping into the role of Patron, the KCCA FC fraternity will be eager to see how his leadership and passion for sport will influence the club’s future trajectory.
An avid sportsman and boxer by background, Balimwezo has often spoken about the value of discipline and determination — qualities that resonate with the footballing spirit.
Balimwezo’s official tenure as Kampala City Lord Mayor is set to commence in May this year, at which point he will also assume his duties as KCCA FC’s new Patron, ushering in a new era for the club and its supporters.
