New Guinea Bissau coach Emiliano Te promises fresh approach

Newly appointed Guinea-Bissau coach Emiliano Te says fans should expect significant changes when the national side plays Sierra Leone and Djibouti in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

The Djurtus, as they are nicknamed, will be at home for both games in Group A, hoping to secure maximum points under their new coach.

Te took over from Portuguese coach Luís Boa Morte and is braced for his first assignment this month. Although Guinea-Bissau are fifth with six points, they still have a slim chance of progressing through the playoffs.

The coach stated that his new technical staff are bringing fresh ideas to the national side. “You can expect good things, namely, a new dynamic. We are a new technical team, with a new work format and a winning mindset.”

Te added that the main aim is to get maximum points against Sierra Leone and Djibouti. “I think the desire we have for these two matches will be evident, both from the coaching staff and the players themselves. We are all focused on achieving positive results.”

Guinea-Bissau have never qualified for the World Cup in their footballing history.
