New venues introduced for crucial Ethiopian Premier League relegation battle

The Ethiopian Premier League Share Company (EPLSC) has added two more venues for the next two rounds of games as the relegation battle tightens in the topflight. The EPLSC confirmed that a decision has been made to adjust the schedule and add more stadiums to ensure fairness as the competition nears its end.

All eyes are on the relegation battle following the league triumph of Ethiopian Insurance at the start of the week. Seven clubs are in the relegation fight as week 35 arrives at a very crucial moment. With two games remaining, the EPLSC officially disclosed that the three clubs with fewer than 39 points will be playing on the same day in different venues. Ethio-Electric, Mekele 70 Enderta, and Adama Ketema each have 38 points and will play their round 35 matches at three different venues.

The EPLSC’s statement added the Adama Science and Technology Stadium, Wonji Stadium, and the Yidnekatchew Tessema Academy Ground. Wonji is a town in Central Ethiopia, 32 km from Adama. The Yidnekatchew Tessema Academy is located in Bishoftu and is owned by Saint George SA.

The Sheger Derby between Ethiopian Coffee and Saint George will now be played in Adama on Saturday, June 14.
