Newcastle United have completed the signing of forward Yoane Wissa from Brentford for an undisclosed fee, with the move subject to Premier League approval. The 28-year-old DR Congo international has agreed a long-term contract at St. James’ Park, becoming the Magpies’ sixth addition of the summer window.

Born in France, Wissa began his professional career with Châteauroux before moving to Angers in 2016. After loan spells at Laval and Ajaccio, he made his breakthrough at Lorient, where his goalscoring exploits helped the club earn promotion to Ligue 1.

In August 2021, the striker joined Brentford following their promotion to the Premier League. Over four seasons with the Bees, Wissa became a key figure, scoring 49 goals in 149 appearances across all competitions. His debut campaign saw him hit double figures, and he followed it up with another seven goals in 2022/23.

Despite missing part of the 2023/24 season while representing DR Congo at the Africa Cup of Nations – where his side finished fourth – Yoane Wissa returned in prolific form, ending the campaign with eight goals and two assists in his final 15 matches. That run made him Brentford’s top scorer for the season.

The 2024/25 campaign proved historic, as Wissa overtook Ivan Toney to become Brentford’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer. He finished the season with 19 league goals, cementing his reputation as one of the division’s most reliable forwards.
