Nigeria to face Cameroon twice ahead of WAFCON 2026

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will battle Cameroon in two friendly matches in Yaoundé as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco.

​The Super Falcons and the Indomitable Lionesses will clash in the Cameroonian capital first on Saturday, February 28, and again on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, as confirmed by the governing bodies of both federations.

​It will be recalled that both teams met in a friendly match prior to the previous WAFCON—also hosted by Morocco—where the Falcons secured a 2-0 victory at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta.

​The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, stated that the friendlies aim to ensure the Super Falcons are fully prepared for the upcoming tournament.

“We have concluded everything that has to do with the two friendly matches, in conjunction with our counterpart body in Cameroon, FECAFOOT.

Our commitment is to ensure that the Super Falcons are well-prepared to retain their WAFCON title in Morocco and qualify for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.”

FECAFOOT General Secretary, Isaac Mandong, also expressed his pleasure at hosting Justine Madugu’s side.

“We are excited about the opportunity to host the Nigeria national team and to strengthen the ties between our two federations through this collaboration.”

WAFCON 2026 outlook

​The defending champions, the Super Falcons, have been drawn into Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and debutants Malawi for the WAFCON 2026 finals.

Meanwhile the Indomitable Lionesses have been drawn into Group D, where their opponents include Ghana, Mali, and debutants Cape Verde.

​The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed the 13th edition of the tournament will run from March 17 to April 3 in the Kingdom of Morocco. All four semi-finalists will earn direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

​The Super Falcons secured their record-extending 10th WAFCON title in Morocco last year, defeating Tunisia, Botswana, Zambia, South Africa, and the hosts along the way.
