Nigeria captain Rasheedat Ajibade joins PSG on a free transfer

Nigeria senior women’s national team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade has officially joined French side Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The 25-year-old forward has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the option for an additional year, tying her to the Parisian giants until at least June 2027.

This move comes after the Super Falcons captains’ contract with Spanish Liga F club Atlético Madrid expired at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season. In a statement on her official unveiling, Ajibade expressed her excitement about the new chapter in her career

“I’m deeply honored to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a top-drawer club in Europe.

This is a major step for me, and I’m committed to giving my all to help PSG win titles and to inspire young footballers, be they in Nigeria or elsewhere.”

Ajibade’s departure from Madrid had been widely speculated, sparking a bidding war among Europe’s top clubs, but PSG ultimately secured her signature following her stellar performances, including leading Nigeria to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco, where she was named the Player of the Tournament.

The Nigerian will now be the new number 10 for PSG. She will now team up with Super Falcons teammate Jennifer Echegini, who has already shown her around her new club.

The transfer is a major statement of intent from PSG, who are aiming to reclaim the Division 1 Féminine title and make a strong push for the UEFA Women’s Champions League crown.

Ajibade’s versatility, capable of playing as a winger, a second striker, or a forward, will provide coach Paulo Cesar with valuable tactical flexibility.
