Nigeria defender Igoh Ogbu opens up on Slavia Prague contract extension

Nigeria defender, Igoh Ogbu has revealed why he extended his contract with Czech club, Slavia Prague for two more years.

The 25-year-old Super Eagles defender extended his contract with Slavia Prague until December 2027 after his blistering performance last season caught the eyes of the technical team.

Top clubs abroad like Besiktas, Fenerbahce, and Lyon have been linked with the Super Eagles star in recent months, but Ogbu made a surprise move by signing a contract extension.

The former Rosenborg center-back has opened up on his transfer situation. He stated that he chose to pen a new deal due to his belief in the club’s ideal and possible UEFA Champions League football next season.

“For me, extending my contract is a good decision and I believe it’s the best one because I understand the system and the philosophy here,” Ogbu told Footy Africa.

“I will also be able to play in the Champions League, which is something I’ve always wanted. That’s why I decided to stay for a while before making the next step. For me, it’s the right choice.”

The Gombe United guardsman accumulated 25 league matches, scoring two goals in the process. He enjoyed three games in last season’s UEFA Europa League.
