Ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has unveiled 'Mission X', a strategic media campaign designed to rally nationwide and international support for the Super Falcons as they aim for a record-extending 10th title in Morocco.
The Nigerian selection remains the most successful women’s national team on the continent, with nine WAFCON titles from 12 editions and now the team is setting its sights on achieving a milestone 10th crown in what has been dubbed "Mission X."
NFF General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi announced the campaign on Tuesday, saying the project is about self-belief as he calls for all Nigerians to support the Super Falcons.
“This campaign is about unity and belief. We are committed to fully supporting the Super Falcons’ campaign for a 10th continental title, and we want football-loving Nigerians — at home and abroad, young and old — to join in and show their unwavering support.”
Sanusi also added that Falcons are ambassadors of African women’s football and with the right support they can continue to blaze the trail in women's football.
“The Super Falcons are not just champions — they are pioneers and ambassadors for Nigerian and African women’s football. They have made history before and with the right support, they can make history again.”
Nigeria's dominance in women’s football also includes earning Africa’s sole tickets to the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991 (China) and 1995 (Sweden) prior to the establishment of the tournament-format WAFCON, which began its current format in the 1998 edition hosted by Nigeria.
The Mission X campaign will run across digital platforms, broadcast media, and in diaspora communities, featuring the slogan: “Mission X: One Team. One Goal. One More Star.”
The campaign calls on fans from Abuja to Casablanca to energize and uplift the team throughout the competition.
Super Falcons will play their group stage matches in Casablanca and will continue their pursuit of glory across various venues in Morocco should they advance to the knockout stages.
