Ademola Lookman returns to Atalanta training ground

After a several weeks of standoff, Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has reportedly returned to the Atalanta training ground in Zingonia on Tuesday.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Lookman was accompanied by his father and a friend as he made his way back to the training ground. Lookman, whose desire for a move to the Serie A champions was public and unwavering, had gone on strike to force a transfer. For over a week, the player was absent from training, even relocating to the UK to train on his own.

The situation escalated with Lookman’s public statement accusing the club of “broken promises” and “poor treatment,” further souring his relationship with the club.

The Nerazzurri made multiple offers, with their final bid reportedly reaching €45 million, but Atalanta remained firm on their valuation of €50 million. The Bergamo club had also expressed a reluctance to sell their star player to a direct Serie A rival.

However, with Inter Milan now opting to walk away from the deal, Lookman has been forced to return to his current club with the 2025-26 Serie A season just days away.

As a result of his unauthorized absence, Lookman is now expected to face sanctions from the club. The specific disciplinary action is yet to be announced, but a fine and potential exclusion from the squad for the opening matches are likely possibilities.
