Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo is reportedly remaining at Sky bet Championship side Southampton despite speculation over his future following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.
The Saints head coach Will Still confirmed that the Super Eagles midfielder has decided to stay at St Mary’s for the 2025-26 season, bringing an end to weeks of intense speculation over his future.
Still personally assured that the Nigerian international and Samuel Edozie has decided to stay at the club and are now fully part of the squad.
“Yes, they’re [Aribo and Samuel Edozie] back in the squad. We all know what the transfer window is like. They had options and opportunities that didn’t quite materialise. Now we’re pleased to have them focused and ready.”
After Southampton dropped to the Championship last season, a summer exodus saw several first-team players leave, and Aribo was tipped to follow, with reported interest from Villarreal, RB Leipzig, Besiktas, and his former club Rangers.
The 29-year-old missed the club’s opening four games while assessing his options. Aribo’s decision is a boost for Southampton as they target an immediate return to the Premier League.
