Nigerian midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has explained his reason to join Turkish Süper Lig powerhouse Besiktas.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who recently ended an eight-and-a-half-year tenure with Leicester City, finalised a three-year contract with an option for an additional year on Friday.
Ndidi while speaking with Besiktas TV said that he wanted to experience something new with a big club.
“Besiktas are one of the biggest teams in the country. I wanted to be here because I want to see a new environment, new people, and a new league.”
Ndidi was linked to a number of top clubs around Europe but opted for a move to the Istanbul giants.
The move to Besiktas, which reportedly cost the Turkish club a transfer fee of €8 million, also sees Ndidi link up with former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who is at the helm of the club.
Besiktas, who are rebuilding their squad with ambitions of competing for the league title and making an impact in Europe, see Ndidi as a key figure to bring leadership and defensive steel to their midfield.
