Former Nigerian international Sylvanus Okpala has urged the Super Eagles to make it a point to win all matches at the next Africa Cup of Nations.
The three-time African champions have been drawn into Group C alongside Uganda, Tanzania and North African nation Tunisia for the tournament which will be hosted in Morocco later this year. Former AFCON winners Tunisia are considered to be the team that will pose a great threat to Nigeria but that notwithstanding, Okpala insists that no team should be underestimated.
“If you want to win AFCON, you have to win all your matches no matter who is in your group or who you face next,” Okpala told Brila.net.
“The Tunisians, we know them well. Uganda and Tanzania are also teams to fear. The most important thing is that we have to win all matches, no matter who we are playing.”
Nigeria leads the group in AFCON history with three titles, while Tunisia has one and both Uganda and Tanzania are yet to win the tournament. The 2025 AFCON kicks off on December 21, with 24 teams competing for a place in the final on January 18, 2026.
