Fulham FC’s Nigerian star Alex Iwobi has revealed Manchester United’s defensive frailty that he exploited during Sunday’s one-all draw.
The Super Eagles’ midfielder created Fulham’s equalizer which his former Gunners team-mate, Emile Smith Rowe, scored in the 73rd minute during the Premier League game.
Rowe scored two minutes after being introduced onto the pitch, timing his run to connect Iwobi’s clever ball into the box from the left.
That proved to be the turning point of the Premier League match which Ruben Amorim’s men controlled from the start.
United started strongly at the Craven Cottage by bombarding Fulham’s area.
Little wonder, the Red Devils snatched the lead via’s Rodrigo Muniz’s own-goal in the second half.
United should have scored earlier when they earned a penalty. However, captain Bruno Fernandes missed his effort.
Now, Iwobi has revealed how he was able to create the equalizer, taking advantage of United’s suspect defending.
“I push on higher and get in those pockets,” he told Sky Sports Television.
“We worked on it in training. We knew that we would be able to get behind their two midfielders, and their three centre-backs immediately jump, so we were able to execute that today.
“We knew that the difference could be made off the bench. It is better to not lose, and we are able to get a good point against a good team.”
Iwobi has since said Fulham’s target this season is to better their record 54 points tally of last season when they finished in 11th place on the Premier League log table.
He said their aim is to secure a spot for European football in the next campaign.
