Nigeria star Asisat Oshoala set for a move to Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia

Nigerian senior women’s national team footballer, Asisat Oshoala, is reportedly set to complete her transfer to Saudi Arabia Professional Women’s Football League side, Al-Hilal.

According to multiple sources, including The Athletic, Oshoala arrived in Riyadh and successfully passed her medical tests on Monday. The 30-year-old forward is making the switch fromNational Women Soccer League (NWSL) club, BayFC, after a brief stint in the United States..

The Super Falcons striker moved to Bay FC from Barcelona Ladies in February 2024. Oshoala made her last appearance for Bay FC in the 3-2 home defeat to Washington Spirit on Saturday.

She now joins a growing list of Nigerian international plying their trade in the Saudi league, including fellow Super Falcons stars Ashleigh Plumptre, Francisca Ordega, Rita Chikwelu, and Chinonyerem Macleans.

Oshoala has an unparalleled record of achievements, including being named African Women’s Footballer of the Year a record six times. She has won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations four times with Nigeria’s Super Falcons and, at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, she secured both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards.

The Nigerian was also the first teenager and first African woman to win the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year award in 2015 and is the first African woman to win the UEFA Women’s Champions League three times.
