Nigeria international Nathan Tella scored a rocket of a goal as Bayer Leverkusen edged out Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in a Bundesliga fixture at Signal Iduna Park on Friday.
It took only seconds for the Super Eagle to put the champions ahead his superb strike cruising past Dortmund custodian Gregor Kobel. Patrick Schick then added the second in the eighth minute before Jamie Gittens pulled a goal back for the home side in the 12th minute.
Schick scored the third for Leverkusen in the 19th minute to ensure they went into the half-time with a 3-1 advantage. In the second half, Guinea international Serhou Guirassy scored for Dortmund but the champions held on to snatch a vital win on the road.
Tella has now featured in 12 Bundesliga matches so far this season, scored one goal and provided one assist. Meanwhile, Guirassy’s strike was the seventh this campaign from 13 matches. He has also provided one assist.
Elsewhere, Ghana international Mohammed Salisu was on target as AS Monaco came from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against Nantes in a Ligue 1 fixture at Stade de la Beaujoire - Louis Fonteneau.
Nantes raced into a 2-0 half-time lead courtesy of goals from Matthis Abline and Kelvin Amian Adou in the 12th and 47th minutes respectively.
Monaco, however, produced a great comeback in the second half with Breel Embolo and Salisu finding the back of the net in the 52nd and 59th minutes respectively. It was Salisu’s first goal of the season from 10 appearances.
Following a strong start to the 2024-25 season, Salisu is rediscovering his form after a month out due to injury. The 25-year-old has made 16 appearances and scored 2 goals in all competitions for Monaco who occupy third place in Ligue 1.
