Nigeria striker Tolu Arokodare has revealed he did not think twice when he received an offer to play for Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.
The 24-year-old arrived at Wolves on deadline day from Belgian outfit KRC Genk. He claimed the Belgian Pro League Golden Boot last season, scoring 21 times in the league. Wolves coach Vitor Pereira handed him his debut against Newcastle United in a game they suffered a 1-0 defeat.
He played for 66th minute before being withdrawn for Jhon Arias.
“When Wolverhampton became concrete, I didn’t hesitate for a second. No one had to convince me. Everyone also knew I absolutely wanted to go to the Premier League,” he told Belgian outlet HLN, via Sports Witness.
“There might have been other rumours [AC Milan and Napoli], but in my head, I only wanted one thing. The Wolverhampton shirt already fits me like a glove. [Wolves are known for] using their strikers well. I’ll benefit from that.”
After his debut, Arokodare received praise from Wolves coach: “After, we need a striker. We had one training with Tolu. He’s a different player, he’s physically strong, he gives us the possibility to play long ball and to hold this ball and to give time for us to appear.
“He did well, of course he is not in the physical condition to do better.”
Arokodare, who is the winner of the 2025 Ebony Shoe, awarded to the best African player in Belgium, will hope to score his first goal when Wolves return to action against Leeds United at Molineux Stadium on Saturday.
