Nigeria qualify for third round of the 2026 U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers

Nigeria U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have advanced to the third round of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after handling Rwanda a 4-0 defeat in their second round, second leg clash at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

The two-time World Cup silver medallists came into the match with a goal advantage from last Sunday’s encounter which they won 1-0, leaving the final score on aggregate to be a 5-0 trashing.

Goals from Precious Chiemerie, Tumininu Fatimah, Janet Akekoromowei, and Taiwo Afolab was all Coach Moses Aduku side finish the job which they started in Kigali.

Precious broke the deadlock in the 15th minute of play when she connected with a pass from Janet. Five minutes later Fatimah scored straight from the corner to double Nigeria’s lead.

The second half saw the Falconets keep on their dominant performance and it paid off in the 60th minute when Janet’s powerful left-footed strike from outside the box couldn’t be stopped by the goalkeeper as it slipped through her hands.

Nigeria still have a chance to keep their record of qualifying for every edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup alive, as this is one of the final hurdle.
