Nigerian Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade is reportedly on the verge of a major career move to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
Ajibade, who recently became a free agent after her contract with Spanish club Atletico Madrid expired in June, has been a top target for several clubs, but it appears PSG has won the race for her signature.
The winger’s free-agent status made her an attractive prospect for clubs across the globe, with reports indicating interest from various teams, including those in the American Major League Soccer (MLS).
However, the allure of playing in the French D’Arkema league and for a club of PSG’s stature proved to be the deciding factor.
The 24-year-old will increase the number of Nigerian players at PSG to two with midfielder Jennifer Echegini already a key member of the PSG squad.
Ajibade led the Super Falcons to a historic 10th title at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, and her performance throughout the tournament was instrumental in Nigeria’s success, earning the 24 year old the Best Player of the tournament.
The Nigeria’s time at Atletico Madrid was a successful chapter, where she became a fan favorite and a consistent performer for the club.
