Nigerian legend Ikpeba: ‘South Africa’s PSL landmark’

Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has credited South Africa’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) for contributing to the country’s national team’s World Cup success.

The former Super Eagles star made the observation on the PSL’s flagship Betway Premiership after Bafana Bafana sealed their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. Hugo Broos’ men saw off Rwanda 3-0 on Tuesday in a decisive game for Group C.

The former Super Eagles striker-turned SuperSport Television pundit said South Africa’s squad composition speaks volumes of the strength of the PSL.

“I did mention this weeks ago when I went South Africa that we [Nigerians] have the talent back home but I think the South African players have the heart. They play as a team and as a unit. Really credit to the team and Hugo Broos,” Ikpeba said.

“A disciplined side can beat a very talented team. Congratulations to South Africa. I think the PSL it is a landmark for African club football.”
