Former Nigeria international Brown Ideye revealed that several foreign based Nigerian players have the interest to return to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

The former West Bromwich Albion striker made a return to the NPFL eighteen years after departing now defunct Bayelsa State club Ocean Boys for greener pastures abroad in 2007. The former Super Eagle has made his way back to the domestic league joining nine-time NPFL holders Enyimba FC.

Ideye follows in the footsteps of former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa to re-join the NPFL to draw the curtain on his football career. Ideye, 36, first shared his excitement about returning to the league where his professional journey began after making his debut for Enyimba.

“It was good. I was expecting to enter early in the game. But I will say that the coach knows better,” he said.

The former Olympiacos striker revealed that his decision to return home has generated interest among other Nigerian players based abroad to revert to the NPFL.

“I received a lot of messages from other players playing abroad. They too are looking forward to be part of this thing that is going on, which is foreign players coming back to play. So I think it is something good,” he added.

Ideye’s debut came during Enyimba’s domestic league clash against Bendel Insurance, which ended in a goalless draw.

Brown Ideye has previously played for Bayelsa United and Ocean Boys of Nigeria before stints in Switzerland for Neuchatel Xamas, Sochaux in France, Dynamo Kiev of of Ukraine, West Brom then in English Premier League and Olympiacos of Greece.

His football journey also took him to China with Tianjin Teda, Spain’s Malaga, Aris in Cyprus, Goztepe in Turkey and finally, Yarmouk of Kuwait before returning home for Enyimba.
