Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju has explained why he extended his loan contract at FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in Malawi by one more year.

Adepujo spent last season at Bullets on loan from South Africa’s Motsepe Foundation side, Venda FC, and was expected back to the Limpopo-based second-tier side.

However, the TNM Super League star has opted to prolong his stay in Malawi, citing Bullets’ investment in his career. “It means a lot to me because this team has given me everything I need as a player,” he said.

“It has revived my career at different times, not only last season when I came, so I am still here for as long as the team wants.”

The former Mighty Mukuru Wanderers forward admitted that Venda and local clubs in Malawi were interested in signing him this January transfer window.

“After the season, my parent club came knocking. I met my parent club and told them I still wanted to be here. The team has made me who I am. Without them, I won’t be needed,” he said.

“Locally teams came knocking but this club will always be my priority over everything. I came here last year. The team revived me and I got back my scoring boot. Last year was better than the other year so I want this year to be better.”

Adepoju signed for the Motsepe Foundation Championship side in early 2023 on a three-and-a-half-year contract following an impressive season with Bullets when he won the TNM Golden Boot Award with 18 goals.

However, the 29-year-old struggled for goals at Venda managing less than five in his debut season before he made a U-turn to rejoin the Blantyre-based outfit on loan. The Nigerian joined Bullets in 2021 after crossing the floor from rivals Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.
