Four matches took place in the Nile Egyptian League on Friday with close, low scoring matches in the early games before two high scoring affairs closed out the day. Read more on each match below.
Al Ahly Bank 3-2 Al Ittihad: Yaw Annor steals the spotlight
Former Ghana Premier League goal king Yaw Annor was involved in all three goals as Al Ahly Bank defeated Al Ittihad Alexandria in one of the later matches. The Ghana-born Togolese national team forward set up goals for Osama Faisal and Mohamed Ibrahim to put the hosts ahead 2-0 inside five minutes.
Amr Gomaa and Abdelghani Mohamed responded for visitors Al Ittihad to level the match. However, Annor had the last laugh by providing the winning goal before the hour mark for his fifth league goal of the season.
Al Ahly Bank are strong candidates to establish themselves as the best club outside of Egypt's Big 3: Al Ahly, Zamalek and Pyramids FC. They are now in fourth place after moving past Al Masry. Al Ittihad remain mired in the middle of the table in 11th place.
Petrojet 2-2 Haras El Hodoud: Exciting draw ends with late goals
Two overachieving teams clashed in the other later match with Petrojet and Haras El Hodoud sharing the spoils. Hady Reyad put hosts Petrojet ahead inside ten minutes before Emeka Eze set up Hazem Mohamed for Haras El Hodoud's equalizer before halftime.
Ahmed Farouk appeared to give Petrojet the win with his 87th minute goal but veteran forward and former Al Ahly player Amr Gamal scored his first goal of the season in stoppage time to level. Haras El Hodoud are on 22 points in 6th place while Petrojet sit three points back in 9th position.
ENPPI 1-0 Smouha: ENPPI finally back to winning ways
ENPPI ended a 10-match winless run in the league with a 1-0 home victory over Smouha.
Ahmed El Agouz netted the only goal of the match in the 56th minute from the penalty spot. However, he missed the chance to double his tally when he sent another penalty off target in the 90th minute.
Despite their winless streak in the league, ENPPI had managed to secure two victories in the Egypt Cup, earning a spot in the quarter-finals. This win lifts them to 15th place with 12 points, while Smouha suffered their second consecutive league defeat and sits in the 12th place with 17 points.
Pharco 0-0 Modern Sport: Goalless draw in Alexandria
Elsewhere, Pharco and Modern Sport played out a 0-0 draw, extending Pharco’s winless streak to three league games. Modern Sport, on the other hand, have won just once all season—ironically, against Zamalek.
With this result, Pharco holds 9th place with 19 points, while Modern Sport stays at the bottom of the table in 18th place with just 9 points.
