Nile League: Ismaily ends winless streak with late victory over Tala’ea El Gaish

The first round of the Nile Egyptian League relegation playoff stage concluded today with a match between Tala’ea El Gaish and Ismaily SC.

Ismaily secured a victory on the debut of new coach Tamer Mustafa, defeating Tala’ea El Gaish away 1-0. The decisive goal came in the 86th minute, when Khaled Al Nabrisi found the net with a header after a cross from Mohamed Khatary.

Khatary’s goal put an end to an eight-match winless streak for the historic club best known for being the first Egyptian club to win the African Champions League. On the other hand, Tala’ea El Gaish suffered their third defeat in their last four league matches.

In the reverse fixture earlier this season, Tala’ea El Gaish had defeated Ismaily 2-1 at Ismaily’s home ground.

With this win, Ismaily climbed to sixth place in the relegation group standings with 17 points, level on points with Ghazl El Mahalla, who sit seventh on goal difference. They are also just one point behind Al Ittihad, who occupy fifth place. Tala’ea El Gaish remains in second place in the group with 21 points.

The Nile Egyptian League’s second phase is split into two groups:

The Championship Group, consisting of the top nine teams from the first stage, competing for the league title.

The Relegation Group, which includes the bottom nine teams from the first stage fighting to avoid relegation.
