Tunisian side CS Sfaxien has announced that no one is currently running for the club due to the club's financial instability. An independent committee set up to oversee the general assembly stated that no candidate had submitted their candidacy to run for the presidency for the next two years.
According to La Presse, the election is set for May 31st but with no candidates running it may be postponed. The club’s interim chairman, Mehdi Frikha, stated that Sfaxien’s debt stands at approximately $4.6 million USD (14 million Tunisian Dinars) as the club continues to struggle both on and off the pitch.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding the board elections, Sfaxien has been working to secure financial backing from sponsors and supporters. The club recently launched a funding campaign and is reportedly close to agreeing on a three-year sponsorship deal with a Tunisian telecommunications operator.
The fate of the election remains in the balance. Sfaxien wrapped up the league season in seventh place and were eliminated from the Tunisian Cup in the Round of 16 stage, failing to qualify for either of the CAF club competitions for next season.
