La Liga: Nobel Mendy to miss Vallecano fixture against Elche

Senegalese defender Nobel Mendy could miss Friday’s La Liga match against Elche after picking up an injury while on international duty.

Nobel Mendy is not certain to play for Rayo Vallecano against Elche this Friday evening (7:00 PM GMT), in the opening match of LaLiga’s 30th round.

Having injured his knee and been substituted at the end of the first half during his debut for the national team against Gambia (3-1) on Tuesday, the 21-year-old defender is doubtful for this match, according to his coach Iñigo Pérez.

Nobel Mendy has made Senegal debut

“We have some doubts regarding Ilias Akhomach, Fran Pérez, and Nobel Mendy.

“Today’s (Thursday’s) training session will tell us more, but I can neither guarantee their participation nor their absence.

“These are minor, persistent physical issues, and we’ll see how training goes today,” said Rayo Vallecano coach Iñigo Pérez at a press conference on Thursday.

Nobel Mendy earned his debut Senegal call up for the two international friendly during the March window.

Senegal posted a 2-0 win over Peru before swatting aside neighbors the Gambia 3-1 where Nobel Mendy made his debut but eventually got injured.

For Rayo Vallecano this season, the centre-back has racked up 18 appearances with two goals scored as The Giant Killers sit 14th on the table with 32 points from 29 games.
