Former Kaizer Chiefs star Siyabonga Nomvethe has thrown his weight behind Pyramids FC's Fiston Mayele, touting him as the perfect solution to Amakhosi's long-standing goal-scoring woes.
The Soweto giants have grappled with a persistent lack of a consistent goal-scorer, a deficiency that has plagued the team for several seasons.
Last season, mid-season arrival Glody Lilepo surprisingly emerged as the club's top scorer in the Betway Premiership, netting six goals and outperforming players who had been with the club for the entire campaign.
Nomvethe emphasised the critical need for Chiefs to acquire a consistently scoring striker and firmly believes Mayele fits the bill. He articulated that the former Young Africans striker possesses all the requisite qualities and would thrive with consistent service from his teammates.
"You have to work hard to get a striker," Nomvethe asserted. "You need to get someone who will give their best here, who always wants to up their game. And you know that it’s not easy to get a striker. But then Chiefs need to really hunt down the striker because when you look at this African guy [Fiston Mayele], he has everything, he needs people that he can play with.”
Mayele was a standout performer for Pyramids, playing a pivotal role in their historic CAF Champions League triumph, the club's first-ever continental title.
The prolific striker finished as the tournament's top scorer with nine goals in 13 matches, including a crucial strike in the final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
