NPFL: Abia Warriors win away to move into top spot as Niger Tornadoes blame overconfidence

Technical adviser of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, Niger Tornadoes, Majin Mohammed, claims that overconfidence was the reason for his team’s defeat to Abia Warriors at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna on Sunday. Abia Warriors moved into top spot with Sunday’s victory.

A strike from Sunday Megwo and an own goal from Chibueze Damian condemned Niger Tornadoes to 2-0 defeat at home.

Reacting to the match via the club’s social media, Mohammed pointed out that his players were carried away with their last away win in Katsina against Kano Pillars, as he admitted that though his team had their chances in the game they failed to convert them.

“First of all, I think we were carried away by the victory against Pillars, we thought we could just ride over Abia Warriors. We had our chances but couldn’t utilise them and the visitors capitalise on a defensive errors and took their chances, that was how conceded two cheap goals.”

The defeat was Niger Tornadoes first home loss of the 2025-26 campaign, as Abia Warriors moved to the summit.
