Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Bayelsa United edged Rivers United 2-1 in the South South derby at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Monday.
The game, which was postponed to Monday following heavy downpour at the venue on Sunday, saw Rivers United handed their first defeat this season.
Shuaibu Garba gave Bayelsa United the lead two minutes before the half hour mark. The visitors doubled their advantage through Chinedu Emmanuel nineteen minutes from time as Stephan Manyo could only net a consolation goal for the Pride of Rivers deep into stoppage time.
However, the match that got fans talking from Matchday 8 of the NPFL was between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars FC (3SC).
The match ended in a dramatic one all draw that saw the fans of the home side storm into the field and attack the fans and players’ of 3SC after a late goal was scored to level the score line.
In other fixtures, table toppers Nasarawa United defeated Enugu Rangers 2-1, Abia Warriors remained in second place after a safe 2-0 victory over El Kanemi Warriors and newly promoted Kun Khalifa edged ten men Enyimba. Ikorodu City edged Bendel Insurance 1-0.
Meanwhile, Warri Wolves played yet another 1-1 draw against Niger Tornadoes, also Wikki Tourist and Kwara United ended in the same scoreline. Kastina United humbled current champions Remo Stars with 3-1 score, as Plateau United walked away with a clean sheet and three points after securing a 2-0 victory against Barau FC.
