Nigerian football giants Enyimba are reportedly finalizing plans to officially unveil Deji Ayeni as their new Technical Adviser next week, marking a fresh chapter for the nine-time league champions.
The “People’s Elephant” have been under the interim guidance of Lawrence Ukaegbu since November, following the suspension of veteran tactician Stanley Eguma.
The club’s hierarchy moved to sideline Eguma following a string of inconsistent results that left the Aba-based outfit trailing in the NPFL title race.
Ayeni, 53, arrives with a wealth of top-flight experience, having previously enjoyed managerial stints with Sunshine Stars and Akwa United. Most recently, he has been in the dugout for Nigeria National League (NNL) side Crown FC of Ogbomosho.
His appointment is strategically timed, with the club expecting him to take full command of the first team starting with the second half of the 2025/26 campaign.
Enyimba’s faithful will hope Ayeni can restore the clinical edge that has historically defined the club. Currently, the team is preparing for a high-stakes encounter against Shooting Stars, which serves as their final fixture of the season’s first half.
While Ukaegbu will likely oversee the clash against “3SC,” Ayeni is expected to be in the stands to assess the squad before officially taking the reins.
