Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars bounced back from their midweek defeat to secure a dominant 2-0 win over Wikki Tourists at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena on Monday.
The defending champions where on the receiving side of 2-0 defeat to Abia Warriors on Thursday. Goals from Adama Goita and Alex Oyowah was all the Sky Blue Stars needed to come back to winning ways.
The hosts’ first big chance came in the 15th minute when Olamilekan Adedayo picked up a loose ball in the box, but could only shoot straight at goalkeeper Okoh Chizoba. At the end of the first half an effort by Goita was stopped also stopped by Chizoba.
The second half was meet by dominant play from coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s boys with the visitors getting limited ball action. However, the home side’s hard work paid off in the 79th minute when Goita was able to slot a goal home off a cross by Ibrahim Abubakar. In added time, Oyowah sealed the victory when he pounced on a dropped ball by Chizoba to move the reigning champions up to 9th place on the log.
Other Matchday 7 fixtures on Saturday saw El-Kanemi Warriors where 2-1 victors over Kano Pillars, Bendel Insurance fell 0-1 to Nasarawa United.
Meanwhile on Sunday, Abia Warriors edged Kwara United 1-0 away from home, with Warri Wolves emerging 1-0 winners against Barau FC while Plateau United defeated 1-0 Shooting Stars. Enyimba International played out a goalless draw with Rivers United. Enugu Rangers also won 1-0 against Katsina United.
