After many changes at the top of the table as clubs battled for position in the first half of the 2024-25 Nigeria Premier Football League campaign, Remo Stars continue to emerge as the team to beat following a flawless start to the second half.

Sunshine Stars were the latest victims of the club based in Ogun State as Remo Stars scored twice inside the opening thirty minutes to secure a 2-1 victory over the weekend at the Remo Stars Stadium in Sagamu.

Rising 19-year-old talent Alex Oyowah put the league leaders ahead inside ten minutes before Ibrahim Abubakar added another for the visitors who held off a late charge to triumph in the local derby. The Sky Blue Stars are now eight points clear the top of the log with victories in their last five matches.

While Remo Stars maintain their unbeaten form, the leaders are benefiting from the competitive nature of Nigeria's top flight where their competitors continue to take points off each other. Second placed Shooting Stars opened the scoring in the 75th minute at Plateau United but the hosts replied swiftly to share the spoils in a 1-1 result.

Rivers United and Enugu giants Rangers International established themselves as early contenders for top honors but both clubs have gotten off to nightmare starts in the second half of the season. Third placed Rivers have yet to win in 2025 after slipping to a 2-0 defeat at Heartland on Sunday, extending their ongoing winless streak to five matches.

Things went better for Rangers who earned their first victory since the dawn of the new year with a 2-0 result over Lagos club Ikorodu City. Experienced striker Godwin Obaje found the goal for his fourth strike of the season in the victory, leaving Rangers International a point back of Rivers United in fourth place.
