The match, which saw Remo Stars secure a narrow 1-0 win, was marred by physical attacks on fans and Ikorodu City players following the final whistle.
Reacting to the incident, the league’s Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi stated that the league body is displeased with the violence witnessed during the game.
“In light of the reports and video evidence that are in our possession, the NPFL is inviting the two clubs to an investigative hearing on Monday, January 19 at our office in Abuja.”
The league has summoned both teams to the hearing to determine the immediate and remote causes of the incident. The league body noted that it intends to invoke its rules and apply appropriate sanctions against any individual or club found culpable.
