NPFL: Remo Stars overtake Rivers United

Six of the nine matches of Round 16 in the Nigeria Premier Football League were played on Sunday when Remo Stars moved themselves into top spot at the expense of Rivers United.

First half goals from Peter Onouoha and Togo national team member Kwame Mawuena were enough for the club from Ogun State to secure a routine 2-0 home victory over El Kanemi Warriors. Remo Stars are now level with Rivers United on 29 points at the top, holding the edge due to a superior goal difference.

Rivers had a difficult test in Enugu against Rangers International and the hosts came out on top with a 1-0 victory. Collins Ugwueze arrived in the 16th minute to send an accurate header into the net directly from a long throw-in by Hillary Ekawu.
