Matchday 12 from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) rounded up on Monday, as Rivers United bounced back to winning ways with 1-0 victory on the road against newly promoted Kun Khalifat FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri.
Coach Findi George’s side, who were held to a goalless draw against Bendel Insurance on Thursday, dominated most of the proceedings in the first half but couldn’t break down the defensive line of Kun Khalifat.
It seemed like the Pride of Rivers would be held to a stalemate until substitute Maclyn Biokpo, who replaced Omaka Anthony, fired the vistors home in the 78th minute to break the deadlock and seal off the match.
In the other two matches played on Monday, defending NPFL champions Remo Stars finally broke their three-match league losing streak as they edged El-Kanemi Warriors 2-1 at home.
After trailing just before the hour through Jonas Emmanuel’s goal, the Daniel Ogunmodede coached side left it late to level from Victor Mbaoma’s spot kick in the 87th minute before former Abia Warriors striker Michael Ibe netted the winning goal for the hosts deep into stoppage time.
Also at the New Jos Stadium, Saka Gafar goal secured Plateau United the maximum three points in their 1-0 against Bendel Insurance who are still looking for their first victory under Kennedy Boboye.
On Sunday current table toppers Nasarawa United were held to a 1-1 draw against Kwara United in a North Central Derby as goal from last season top score Anus Yusuf and the equalizer from kwara’s Johnmark Alue in the first half decided the game.
