NPFL’s Elegbeleye reaffirms promise to deliver on financial obligations

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has reiterated the league's dedication to fulfilling its promises, during the kick off of the league particularly concerning the disbursement of cash rewards.
Elegbeleye confirmed that already crowned champions of the 2024/25 NPFL season Remo Stars are set to receive a grand prize of ₦200 million ($124,714 USD). This impressive sum represents a notable increase of 33.3% compared to the ₦150 million ($93,526) awarded to Enugu Rangers, the 2023/24 league winners.
Reflecting on the evolution of the league's financial incentives, the NPFL chairman detailed the progress of payment growth and affirmed that all payments have been made as they aim to continue in that light for the Sky blue stars.
"We made a promise three years ago to reward the league winner with ₦100 million ($62,357), and we delivered. Last season, we raised it to ₦150 million, and this season we pledged ₦200 million—and we will fulfill that,” said Elegbeleye.
Also, he emphasized the main is to give the league an upward trajectory.
“Our goal is to grow geometrically. As the league improves, it becomes more marketable.”
Since his arrival into office first as chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the NPFL in April 2023, and his appointment as chairman of the NPFL 22, 2023, the league has seen an upward trajectory in various angles from officiating of games and sponsorship. With all monetary commitments being paid to various clubs.
